Christmas in California

Christmas lights lining State Street; Christmas tree

This year I am spending Christmas with my big sister in Santa Barbara, California. I've never been to America before but this is a great place to start.

I'm on my way to New York after new years, then I am off to Denmark to start a new chapter in my life. I'm terrified but unbelievably excited.

Summer Love

I know it isn't officially summer yet but Mother Nature sure thinks it is. We are only in the third week of Spring and yesterday it was 31 degrees.

Summer makes me want to drink cider from the bottle and dance on the beach at sunset. It makes me want to stay out all night even if I'm sober - I want to jump in the pool with all my clothes on after dinner. And I wanna listen to Bob Marley.

I don't listen to Marley a lot but it fits so well into my summer daydreams - and it always makes me smile.

Craving a beach party right now! *sigh*

Animal

So, I have a dog. His name is Maxi. He is a Husky. I paid about $15 for him at Target. Yes, Target. Maxi is a stuffed toy, but that does not make him any less of a genuine pet. It makes him better.

Here is why:

Pros
1. Maxi can't bark
2. He doesn't shed hair
3. He never grows up, so I get to have a puppy forever!
4. You can squeeze the living daylights out of him and he won't stop breathing.
5. No unexpected puddles around the house when I come home.
6. I don't have to spend money on expensive dog food.
7. No vet fees
8. I can go away on holiday and not have to worry about Maxi being fed or cared for.
9. I don't have to wash him
10. No slobber
11. No stinky dog breath
12. No licking my face (some people like the licking of the face - I do not)
13. No leg humping
14. He stays when I tell him to.
15. He doubles as a pillow

But also,

Cons
1. He doesn't come to me, I go to him
2. I can't take him for walks without looking crazy
3. I can't talk about my awesome dog to my friends without looking crazy
4. I can't film videos for YouTube of him doing something funny/cute
5. I could but I would look crazy
6. I can't talk to Maxi without looking (extra) crazy
7. the extra is because people who talk to their animals already look crazy
8. I can't teach him awesome tricks
9. He won't fetch my slippers
10. He is not emotive
11. This makes it hard to tell how he is feeling
12. I seem like a crazy person

Isn't he the CUTEST!

Fluid

I bought myself some new trainers over the weekend. I have been wearing the same $20 sneakers from Kmart for about the past 5 years, so I decided since I'm committed to Fitbox four times a week I should invest in some better quality trainers. I got the new Adidas Fluid Trainers in Black and White for about $140 at Rebel Sports.
I was wearing my Converse when I went into the city to buy them, and in comparison, the Fluids are so flexible and light - they make me want to bounce around all day.
I had picked them out online about a week before I actually decided to buy them and I was a bit worried about the design, because of the mesh on the side of the shoes I thought maybe you would be able to see through it to my white socks, but I was happily surprised when I couldn't.

When I got home, I put them on straight away.....and sat on the couch. I was so pumped to go for a walk in them and then the couch sucked all my energy out of me. We did end up going for a walk just around our neighbourhood though. The Fluids are so comfy; the mesh sides let the breeze in! I think my feet were pretty happy with my new sock and shoe combo (new socks were an emergency purchase when I forgot to pack mine for Fitbox last week).

Scott and I decided to go for a big walk to Kangaroo Point on Sunday. 10 minutes in I was already disappointed because I got a blister! I was so bummed. They were fine on Saturday! I'll just have to keep wearing them to break them in a little more I guess.

I'm thinking about doing the Bridge to Brisbane with a friend in September. Walking of course! Geez. I'm not that fit...yet.

Craft Expo

Last weekend I finally got to sit down with two of my closest friends and have breakfast. I don't get to see them too often so we made a whole day of the fact the none of us had anything else to do.
I had seen in the newspapers during the week that there was a craft expo on in Brisbane over the weekend and immediately let the girls know. We endeavour to be crafty souls.

It's actually a little crazy how excited I was for the Craft Expo. I made sure that I didn't make any silly impulse purchases during the week so I could spend money at the Expo. I probably spend almost $100 dollars but I really didn't get that much stuff (Entry was $14 as it is). I haven't even taken the things out of the bag until today to photograph them. I still don't know exactly what I'm going to use everything for but the point is I'm going to do something with them......and also, they're really really pretty.

I might just put the giant beads on a simple chain as a feature for any outfit. As for all the other beads, I don't really care what I do with them as long as I get to look at them all the time - so gorgeous, right? The safety pins, I couldn't help but buy - I have a strong addiction to safety pins and if you asked me to take one thing with me to a deserted island, it would be a safety pin. Not even joking.
The stamps are just too cute. I saw the set of three bicycle stamps as I walked in but was hesitant to buy because of the $15 price tag but at the end of the day I had to go back and get them. The 'Joy' stamp is for my sister (though I have a feeling she already has one) - she will understand.

Craftiness is key, after all.

Just a little update of the goings on, on my Polyvore profile. I've been feeling very inspired and creative with my outfits lately. I will explain more in detail soon, so for now, please enjoy!
